Potty Training

It was a long holiday for Mommy & Daddy (Labour Day and Wesak Day holiday replacement). Poh Poh and Gong Gong came for a short stay in our new house. I can call Poh Poh already, but can't call Gong Gong yet. So, I'll just say 'Hi' whenever I wanted to address him. Or sometimes I'll just call him Poh Poh too! To me, as long as he knows I'm talking to him, that's ok :)

Poh Poh suggested to Mommy to get me started on potty training, since she's on a long holiday. So, in their first attempt, she removed my pampers and let me wear just my pants. Every 5-10 minutes, they will surely ask me if I want to go 'shi shi'. I will nod and Mommy will removed my pants and let me sit on the potty (they transferred it from the batroom to the living room now, for my convenience). After sitting there for less than 1 minutes, I'll stand up and say 'boh boh' (No, in hokkien) and then run away. Sometimes Mommy will carry me to the bathroom and ask me to 'shi shi' there. But it always ended up with me saying 'boh boh' and struggled to be let down. So this kept on repeating for a few times, until they stopped asking me. And then it happens..... Mommy has to clean up the floor and called it the day by putting me in my pampers again. They tried this for a few days, and I did told them once correctly - so at least there's a little achivement on my part :)

Since then, everytime they asked me if I wanted to 'shi shi', this is what I'll do - with my pants on, hehe :)

To buy or not to buy?

I heard Mommy has been asking Daddy this question lately - do you think we should get a car seat for Szeyi? They have bought me to Anakku twice and ask me to sit in this bulky chair with belts all over. The first time I took a look at it, I straightaway shook my head and struggled not to be put there. Instead, I asked to be put inside the cute walker opposite it!

Later I found out that Anakku is having a promotion for this particular car seat (30% less), so that's why they have been considering of buying me a car seat. But when they finally got me in, I screamed and yelled as they tighten the seat belt on me. Since then, I never like a car seat.
So, one day before the promotion ends, they tested this out on me while we're in the car, going somewhere:

Daddy: SzeYi, sit down. Don't be naughty
(I love stepping on Daddy's cassette holder and like seeing them popped up)
Mommy: Come SzeYi, sit down. Let's tie the seat belt. See Mommy is having seat belt, so is Daddy. And so is Doggy and Ribena Berry here.
Szeyi: Mama, nen nen
Mommy: Ok, you wear your seat belt and mommy will give you nen nen
Szeyi: (Climb back into the back seat and let mommy tie the seat belt)

After this, both of them decided that I don't need a car seat after all. Yippee!

Caught in the act!

I have never felt so happy like today. Amah gave me full freedom to do as I wish as she attempted to cook dinner with me messing around in the kitchen.

I was too engrossed enjoying myself until I didn't notice that Daddy & Mommy came back! And guess what they caught?

Oops! I was not even wearing my clothes. It was too warm these days and I wouldn't let Amah put on my clothes. And my favourite spot in Mommy's kitchen is to play with her plastic containers.... Since I'm tall enough to open every drawers, Mommy has moved everything away, but Amah asked her to leave these containers there so that I can at least entertain myself when she's busy with other things.

We're moving!

It's been awhile since I last blogged. We're moving house so everybody is very busy. Well, it has been nearly 2 months - we actually moved on the 8th day of Chinese New Year aka 25th Feb 2007. I didn't get to go online... will have to catch up again real soon.

Well, here's a view of my room, with all my toys and things.

Tigger

I got a present, a CNY gift from Aunty Lean Nee, mommy's good friend on Feb 16, 2007. When I first got it, I was quite afraid of it, coz it'll vibrate when it's tail is being pulled. At that time, I still don't know how to pull its tail.

Now, after 2 months, I could actually pull it's tail, and know that it's called Tigger. Thanks a lot, Aunty Lean Nee :)

Drinking on my own

I can finally drink on my own now - which mommy's really proud of. She has breastfeed me for 15 months plus and according to her, I weaned off without any problem. Of course occasionally I'll pulled at mommy's blouse and ask for nen-nen (normally I did this very discreetly, I'll direct her to the room first), but after sometime, when I discovered that there's not enough for me, I voluntarily opt for the formula, to mommy's dismay.

Mommy: Szeyi, do you want nen-nen?
Szeyi: Nodding head
Mommy: Mommy breastfeed you, ok?
Szeyi: Shake head
Mommy: Then mommy make formula for you?
Szeyi: Nod Nod

Now I can hold my own bottle :)

Dangerous Act

I discovered something new today - didn't know i can climb so high! What a sense of achievement, ahem :)

It gives everybody a shock, and I was warned not to do this again :(
Hmm.... but they let me do it one more time so that they could capture this live!

Eating on my own

When it comes to meal time, I'll insist that Mommy let me feed myself. And since I'll always mess things up, Mommy will put me on a high chair and guide me when I'm putting the food into my mouth.

Initially, I tend to use my left hand to feed myself, but Mommy will try to correct me to use my right hand instead. After sometime, she'll let me do it naturally, regardless of left or right. I overheard Mommy told Daddy that she started writing with left hand, but Gong Gong corrected her when she's still small. So maybe that's why she tried to correct me initially, but stopped herself later as she heard Amah saying left-handers are generally more creative. Anyway, I'm more towards a right-hander now.

Erm... at least today I could feed myself without needing Mommy's interference. If not, they won't be able to get this pictures, hehe...

Pool time

I have more pool time after I moved to our new place. I love playing in the baby pool as I can walk in it. But when Daddy tries to take me to the adult pool, I begin to panick as my feet can't touch the base. I still prefers my little boat (courtesy of Ah Peng Chick Chik).

Mommy's worries:
1. Whenever someone splashes nearby, Szeyi will get panicky and shake her head a few times. She seems to be very afraid of water touching her face or eyes.
2. I noticed that Szeyi is very prone to getting cold, even though she is a breastfeeding baby. Many times after a swimming session, she'll be down with flu. So, we tried to let her play in the pool before it gets dark (around 5pm), and reduce her time in the pool. Hopefully she'll be stronger as she grows bigger...

Little cousin

Have I told you that I have a little cousin, called Sarah? She is a new year baby, born on 1/1/2006. She's been my playmate when I was still living in Amah's house. Since she's staying just a few blocks up from ours, she used to come to play with me or vice-versa when daddy & mommy are working. Her Amah (my Kim Poh) used to bring her down or Amah took me up and we spend lotsa time playing together and teaching each other new tricks. Sometimes, when Amah didn't cook (coz I've been naughty), we'll go up and eat there, since she has a Kakak to cook for her.

Now, after we've moved to our new place, I'm rather lonely. No more playmates other than Amah when Daddy & Mommy go to work. Anyway, here's a photo of us, when she comes to visit me recently.

Yoga before sleeping?

I have a tendency to do a little bit of yoga pose (as Daddy calls it) before sleeping every night. Somehow I have difficulty sleeping, and will start to lift up my back when it comes to sleeping time. Mommy has been observing me doing this since I'm small but didn't get a chance to take a photo of it until now. It started with this...

and after a few practice, I can finally do a somersault!

A feeling of triumph!

Poor little toe

I had a little accident recently. I still remember that fateful Tuesday afternoon (Feb 27th, 2007 - 2 days after we moved into our new condo), how my little right toe has turned blue black. Amah was trying to organize some stuffs in the kitchen cabinet, and I saw this canned food and wanted to play with it. I'm not sure how things happened when this can fell on top of my right toe! I cried non-stop (and mind you, I don't normally cry unless it's really painful) so Amah got worried and called Daddy. He and Mommy were at work, both in the middle of a meeting at that time. Since Amah also didn't normally call them when I got accidents (she'll normally only tell them after they returned from work, like if I fell off the bed, or knocked on something, etc...), so they got really worried and rushed back to take me to the hospital. I was sleeping at that time, and only woke up when I reached the hospital. Luckily Dr. Lim said there's no need to do an x-ray first, just observe for a few more days. I was given some medication, of course.

So, that's how my little toe became blue black... I would showed it to Mommy and Daddy, with some exaggeration of "oohhhs & ahhhs" to gain their symphaty. I thought that's the worst part. But I was wrong. The following Monday, I woke up earlier than usual and saw Daddy was preparing for work. Then I went to play with my Barney storybook toy (a birthday present from Mommy & Daddy - photo below was taken during my birthday last year).

Suddenly, I lost my grip and the toy fell right on top of that very same toe! I saw blood splashing out onto the whole floor and got scared. I quickly ran to Daddy and hugged his legs. Initially Daddy thought I was trying to be 'manja' with him, but when he saw the blood everywhere, he got panicky and started calling for Mommy. Mommy came out from the room and carried me, trying to console me at the same time as trying to clean the wound. Later, they took me to the emergency unit in Hospital Pantai as Dr. Lim hadn't arrive yet. I had a hard time letting the nurses clean and dress my wound. Later, we went to see Dr. Lim again to make sure that all is all right. Thank goodness no x-rays are needed.

Oh, look at my poor little toe... right after the dressing.

And now, after 3 weeks, my toe nail finally came off. Mommy is still keeping that for me. But my right toe is no longer as pretty as last time. Hopefully when I grow older, the scars won't be so obvious anymore. Anyway, I've learnt my lessons - the hard way.

Birthday, And More Birthdays!

Today is Jan 1st, 2007 - New Year Day. It's also my chinese birthday, 13th day of the 12th lunar month. And guess what? It's also my little cousin, Sarah's birthday!

We started our day by going to Church - for a great new start in 2007. Mommy dressed me in my new blouse from Disney (Mommy & Daddy bought me some Disney clothes from Rome last October) and off we went to Church.
In Church, I was behaving quite well but when I started to grow restless, Daddy took me out for a change of environment.

After Mass, we went home. Amah had prepared mee suah for me, which was supposed to symbolise long life. She gave me an ang pow (for good luck) and fed me the mee suah, with hard-boiled egg and meat inside. Then, Mommy fed me chicken drumstick and gave me ang pow too. Mmm.... it's so delicious! All these are part of a traditional chinese custom when a baby turns 1 year old (or actually 2 in chinese calendar, since they counted the day that the child is born to be 1 year old).
Next, Amah placed an abacus, a ruler, a book and a pen in front of me. Each of these items were supposed to represent a career and the first object that I chose was supposed to signify my inclination. Here's what I took - in sequence:
Abacus - does this mean I'm gonna be an accountant next time? :)
Suspense... what would I choose next?
Oh, it's a pen! Hmm....what does it mean? A writer?
Followed by ruler - according to Amah, this means an architect.
And finally a book... Oh dear. Will I ever gao thak chek (good in reading) next time?

Then, Amah wanted me to pai pai and pay my respect to the Goddess of Mercy, Kwan Yin.

When we're done with all the rituals, we went to Cousin Sarah's first birthday party!

We had a great time there, and I enjoyed playing with her. But I was more interested in the balloons. Sarah and her Mommy, or Koh Koh, as I called her. Oops, we missed the birthday cake's photo! Sorry, Mommy didn't get to snap any photos after that. After the party was over, I went back to have my nap.

In the evening, Daddy, Mommy and Amah took me to the swimming pool for a dip in the pool. We're supposed to meet Cousin Sarah there, but she overslept so we went ahead. I had a great time splashing away.
So, that's a day of birthdays. Isn't it nice if everyday can be like this?

The real day

It's my birthday today - for real :) I woke up early and greeted Mommy & Daddy with a big smile before they managed to go off to work. Mommy then nursed me, giving me a power start for my day. When I'm done, Amah took me to watch Mr Banana in her room (as a means of distraction from seeing Mommy & Daddy off to work, for fear of me crying). They even managed to take this shot of me with my new doggy... before I cried.

In the afternoon, Mommy & Daddy came back during lunch time to celebrate with me (it's a Wednesday). We opened the birthday present from Mommy & Daddy. It's an electronic barney storeybook! There are 12 pages in total, from A to Z and number 1-10! It comes in 6 different Barney songs, with a microphone too! And there's even a quiz asking for us to find a certain letter or alphabet. Also, there are notes for me to play, see those musical icons at the bottom there - when the Barney songs are on.

Before this, they have already given me a bicycle last week (actually I chose it myself). It's very cool - in bright yellow & green. Got lots of sounds too. Check it out! And it actually came in a hood to cover my head if it's too sunny (it was not shown here, haven't installed yet). As I'm still small, I can rest my feet on the peddle base. When I'm bigger later, I can actually do the cycling myself. Well, hopefully it'll last till then!

At night, after Mommy & Daddy came back from work, they took me to Jusco at Queensbay Mall. I got to ride a few musical rides, even the merry-go-round too :)

Then, I got to do a little exploring inside Jusco...

Did you noticed that I have my new gown today? Amah specially have it tailor-made for me, with the smocking and all. And with my little bonnet, don't you think I look like a princess? ;D
Overall, I have a great time on my first birthday. Got to spend with Mommy and Daddy and Amah.

See, Daddy taught me a new trick - how to say One in Chinese, and raise my hand to show it :)

Me and Amah in Starbuck Coffee...

Posing for Mommy... Here comes my birthday studio shot, ahem!

My birthday presents

Finally I got to open my birthday presents at night (I have a long nap after my party, it's such a tiring day). Here's my fire engine from Ah Pek :)

I got a Doggy from Chik Chik... he likes my fire engine too!

And I've got another dog (Snoopy) from Aunty Ah Chin, and looks like both dogs have a great time with my fire engine....

and uh oh! Looks what Mommy is doing with my toys! I was so mad!!!!

I was so excited with my new toys that I have to postpone opening the rest of my presents to another day... coz I've been playing with them till very late at night. Even dreamt about it in my sleep!
